As the District 11-5A champion, junior Gavin Liu represented the golf team at the Region II-5A Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, finishing with a score of 80-78, but falling short of advancing to the State Tournament.
“My practice leading up to the tournament was pretty solid and good, but it unfortunately did not translate well into my performance, as I did not end up playing my best,” Liu said. “The competition level definitely did meet my expectations, as the level of play was highly competitive. I feel like I handled the pressure somewhat well, I just did not end up playing to the best of my abilities.”
Although Liu fell short of advancing to state, head coach Shannon Glidwell thought he played well for the most part.
“[Gavin] struggled a little bit at the end of the first day and the beginning of the second day, but he really showed a lot of guts at the end, and played really hard,” head coach Shannon Glidwell said. “[The golf course] was difficult in a lot of areas. Mostly what he ran into was just a bad patch of some rough holes. Outside of that, he played extraordinarily well.”
