The same students responsible for the music drifting through the halls can sometimes be found producing other media beyond the practice space.
On Wednesday this was the case for some orchestra students as they held an art and photography contest during advisory. Students presented several different forms of art including drawings, sketches, digital art, and 3D models of objects/characters.
“Over the last four years of being in orchestra, I noticed many of our members were a part of an art class, awarded an art recognition, or crafted things at home,” orchestra president Callie Yim said. “I created this mini social contest to promote the hobbies several of our orchestra members are participating in.
The competition served as a way to bridge the gap between students’ interests outside of school with orchestra with their work evaluated by art teachers Elise Reed and Emily DeLarios based on overall visual appearance elements such as composition and value.
“To represent this activity to me means building a program that is inclusive to all of our members’ interests” Yim said. “Going into this competition, I hope to see continued events in the future that showcase our members’ talents beyond the musical realm.”
