As the year comes to an end, orchestra is celebrating its seniors with senior week featuring a different treat every day of the week, from their favorite candy on Monday to a personalized cookie cake on Friday.
“Senior week is just a way to celebrate the students who have put in four years (probably seven, with middle school) of orchestra,” orchestra director Julie Blackstock said. “We want to thank them for their contribution.”
Seniors’ gifts are laid out on a table each morning, labeled with their name and the message ‘happy senior week’.
“I think senior week is a great week for orchestra seniors to be recognized and celebrated after four years in orchestra,” senior Saanvi Patel said. “It’s fun to come in every day to the orchestra room and get a treat. So far I received nerds gummy clusters and lemonade which are my favorite candy and drink. I’m also looking forward to my personalized cookie cake.”
The week is something that Blackstock brought to campus and has been a tradition of the program ever since.
“I’ve done senior week for as long as I have taught, so 28 years,” Blackstock said. “I brought it with me when I came to Liberty 12 years ago.”
Underclassmen officers contribute to every part of senior week including making slideshows, senior Instagram posts, or the senior board in the orchestra room.
“I think it’s the coolest that we get to work very closely with one another and dedicate a lot of our time towards making the seniors feel appreciated,” sophomore Sophia Essa said. “Whether that’s through getting each senior’s favorite snack, making note jars, curating social media posts, personalized gifts, and so so much more!”
