Where friendships are made and relationships are built, Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that promotes inclusivity. Along with several other North Texas chapters, Liberty Best Buddies will be attending the annual Best Buddies Friendship Walk hosted at the Frisco Rough Riders stadium on Saturday.
“Each school is there to represent the Best Buddies and show their commitment,” Best Buddies campus sponsor Cynthia Kays said. “We [also] have vendors from the community that are there to show support for Best Buddies in the community. [To] wrap up the event, we do a walk around the Rough Riders stadium.”
The Friendship Walk also presents the chance to meet new people and come together for the same purpose.
“The Friendship Walk brings together so many chapters in one place,” Best Buddies co-president, senior Ella Ferguson said. “[It] creates opportunities to meet people you wouldn’t normally interact with [and] helps build new relationships by encouraging connection through shared experiences and the inclusive mission of Best Buddies.”
Not only does the Friendship Walk promote relationships, but it serves as a fundraiser for Best Buddies.
“Friendship Walk is the leading walk in the country that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” sophomore and Liberty Best Buddies secretary said. “The money ultimately benefits inclusion and goes towards helping North Texas chapters in securing friendships, jobs, leadership development, family support, and inclusive living for people with [these] disabilities.”
