Bouncing back from a high-scoring loss to district rivals Centennial, the softball team (7-4) run-ruled Heritage (0-11) 16-0 in four innings on the road Tuesday.
The Redhawks offense remained consistent throughout the game, holding the Coyotes to a .077 batting average and .143 on-base percentage while posting a .435 batting average and .548 on-base percentage of their own.
Head coach Randi Hamilton attributes the team’s success to the way they were able to rally behind freshman pitcher Beckley Baumgart.
“I was really proud of the way we attacked early,” Hamilton said. “We scored [four runs] in every inning and stayed aggressive. Beckley pitched really well last night. She kept them off balance and so when they did make contact our defense was able to make plays behind her.”
Senior utility player Sam Byrnes likewise credits a team-wide mentality and energy level for the win, which earned the Redhawks a series sweep over Heritage.
“We stayed locked in,” Byrnes said. “Stayed with the same mindset the whole game, we stayed with the same energy and we showed them who’s boss.”
