Many seniors have decided to take Monday, the first school day after Saturday’s prom as an unofficial Senior Skip Day to meet up with friends or relax at home during their final weeks of high school.
The skip day is not school sanctioned, and will count as an absence for students.
“I will be participating in Senior Skip Day because I get an extra day of rest and I get to spend extra time with my friends before we head to different colleges,” Reyna Gannamani said. “I will either be sleeping as I just had prom on Saturday or I will have brunch and go to the arcade with some friends.”
However, some students have chosen not to due to tests during the school day.
“I’m not participating in Senior Skip Day because I have a test that day in my aerospace Engineering class and I would rather not miss it,” senior Catalina Landauro said. “I feel I could most likely skip my 3rd and 4th period, but I won’t as I am already missing a day later this week.
Senior Anagha Konuru appreciates the idea but believes that its timing makes it difficult.
“I see the intention behind it, and I think that’s a fun idea especially because it’s our last year.” Konuru said. “I’m already swamped with work and skipping a day that’s not excused is going to make my workload even worse. I think that this is the busiest time of the year for seniors, and skipping is just going to add to it.”
