Winter weather led Frisco ISD to close all campuses Jan. 26-29 and now according to Community Impact, district officials have filed a waiver with the Texas Education Agency to ensure it keeps its state funding for Jan. 28-29 and not have to use the bad weather make-up days currently on the calendar for April 6 and April 30.

The district will not need to use the bad weather makeup days for Jan. 26-27 or apply for a waiver for those days as Frisco ISD schools had enough banked minutes to meet state requirements for instructional time.

If the TEA grants the waiver, Frisco ISD would not have to use any of its bad weather make-up days which means April 6 and April 30 would be school holidays. 

According to Community Impact, the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees voted 6-1 to request the waiver after Associate Deputy Superintendent Wes Cunningham explained the district historically has low attendance on bad weather make-up days.

State funding for a school district is based on the average number students attending school daily so if the district used the bad weather make-up days and attendance was low, Frisco ISD could lose money compared to the full average daily attendance funding provided by a waiver.
