Seniors Mary Jane Mccurdy and Brooklyn Shelton were presented with District 10-5A preseason awards on Sunday, with McCurdy earning Most Valuable Player and Shelton earning Defensive Most Valuable Player.

In the spring of last school year, both McCurdy and Shelton made the commitment to play D1 volleyball past high school.

“It is a very good sign that I am on the track for the season ahead,” Shelton said. “It is super awesome to be recognized in this way because I haven’t in the past seasons. I feel super motivated to continue to earn that title. I want to keep reminding myself of what I did to get there.”

Earning this award gives McCurdy extra motivation in order to rewin the award at the end of the season.

“This award just sets the tone for the season and gives me expectations for myself ,” McCurdy said. “I need to just continue to work hard, and do good so that I can earn the award again at the end of the season.”
