Saturday marks the district meet for Model UN at Grand Prairie High School. “The basis of MUN is that you’re preparing something about your country’s stance on a certain topic - it’s a mock United Nations,” undersecretary of conference and delegate trainer sophomore Jiya Sharma said.

Opening the season against the Prince of Peace Eagles, the boys’ basketball team escaped with a 41-39 win on Tuesday.

“I think we played okay,” coach Bruce Wright said. “We can’t apologize for winning, but we don’t think we played our best. I think that there’s a lot of areas for growth. It’s a lot easier to build on those areas of growth after a win, as opposed to after a loss.”

Sophomore Gilbert Aluga tipped in the game winning basket with less than a second on the clock to secure the win.

“When I hit that [shot], I just started running around, I was getting pushed around, and I faced the audience and was like, ‘this is our court,’” Aluga said. “Before the game our coach told us we needed to build a reputation on our home court and to take home games more seriously.”
