The track and field team is competing in the Area meet Thursday at Kuykendall Stadium where the top four finishers in each event will compete in the 5A Region II meet at UTA April 19-20.

More than a dozen Redhawks are taking part in the Area track meet at Kuykendall Stadium on Thursday as the top four in each event advance to 5A Region II meet at UTA April 19-20. Here’s a look at the results of Redhawks competing.

Girls’ 3200 meter run

1st: Sydni Wilkins (senior) 10:55.62

2nd: Sofia Golladay (junior) 11:37.76

Girls’ long jump

4th:  Cayley Beaumont (junior) 16-11.75

Girls’ shot put

1st: Jacy Abii (sophomore) 36-10.25

After having high hopes and a positive attitude toward their last game, the softball team fell short, losing 4-3 against the Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. “It was a little disappointing that we weren’t able to take one last win,” head coach Baylea Higgs said. “But the girls still had plenty of fun so I wouldn’t say it was a horrible loss.”

The numbers told the story at the Area meet as senior Syndi Wilkins (#1) and junior Sofia Golladay (#2) finished in 1st and 2nd place in the 3200 and hope to do the same at the Regional meet Friday and Saturday in Arlington.
Bids to state on the line for Redhawks track and field team
An 11-0 loss to the Walnut Grove Wildcats on Friday night doesn’t have the Redhawks softball team down. “We lost, but it was a good game and we still played strong,” head coach Baylea Higgs said. “I think that heading toward the end of the season this shows that we still have plenty of room to grow.”

From the Ford Center, to Kuykendall Stadium, band director Jamie Weaver has led the Redhawks through countless shows at dozes of stadiums. Now after 30 years of teaching, Weaver is retiring at the end of the 2023-24 school year. “I can only hope I have had any impact,” Weaver said. “I think teaching is more archaeology and less gardening: we only help students discover what’s already buried somewhere inside themselves, most of the planting and nurturing comes from home and upbringing.”

On Friday, the new Student Council president and vice president were announced to replace Haley Ward and Lily Leyden for the 2024-2025 school year. Joaquin Perez and Kathryn Murphy will hold the title next year.
