New year, new UIL sports districts

As sports season begins, determine what team the Redhawks might be facing with new UIL districts.

With Frisco ISD having 12 high schools in the district, it is not guaranteed that each Frisco school will play one another during the course of the season. In order to determine what teams will face off during the season, the schools are separated into districts.

The UIL districts for volleyball, football, cross country, and team tennis are listed below.

Districts for Football

Class 5A Division I District 6-5A

Centennial, Frisco, Heritage, Lebanon Trail, Liberty, Lone Star, Reedy, Wakeland, Sherman

Class 5A Division II District 3-5A

Emerson, Independence, Memorial, Argyle, Carrollton Creekview, Denton, Lake Dallas

Class 4A Division I District 7-4A

Panther Creek, Carrollton Ranchview, Celina, Dallas Carter, Dallas Hutchins, Dallas Pinkston, North Dallas

Class 5A Districts for Cross Country, Team Tennis, Volleyball

District 9-5A

Closing out District 10-5A season with a record of 7-7, the Redhawks will now advance to playoffs. Their final game was held Thursday against the Titians, with the Redhawks achieving a 2-0 victory.

Needing a win Tuesday to secure a playoff spot, the Redhawks baseball team missed their chance with a 11-0 loss to the Centennial Titians. It is now up to the seasons final game to determine if the Redhawks will advance.

Nearly a dozen members of the track and field team competed in the UIL 5A Region II meet at UT-Arlington on Friday and Monday, with senior Syndi Wilkins (3200 M Run) & Jack Voehringer (800 M Run) advancing to state.

After having high hopes and a positive attitude toward their last game, the softball team fell short, losing 4-3 against the Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. “It was a little disappointing that we weren’t able to take one last win,” head coach Baylea Higgs said. “But the girls still had plenty of fun so I wouldn’t say it was a horrible loss.”

The numbers told the story at the Area meet as senior Syndi Wilkins (#1) and junior Sofia Golladay (#2) finished in 1st and 2nd place in the 3200 and hope to do the same at the Regional meet Friday and Saturday in Arlington.
Bids to state on the line for Redhawks track and field team
An 11-0 loss to the Walnut Grove Wildcats on Friday night doesn’t have the Redhawks softball team down. “We lost, but it was a good game and we still played strong,” head coach Baylea Higgs said. “I think that heading toward the end of the season this shows that we still have plenty of room to grow.”

Haley Ward is a senior and in her third year with Wingspan. On campus, she serves as Student Council President, she is on the Varsity cheer team, and she is a member of National Honor Society. She loves spending time with her friends at Younglife, shopping with her mom, and spending time with her family and dog. She aims to be like the journalists from her top movies, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and The Devil Wears Prada!
