Not allowing anything to stand in their way as they continue their playoff run, volleyball (34-4, 13-1 District 11-5A, #6 in 5A) swept Mesquite Poteet (33-13, 12-2 District 14-5A) in three sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-21)  at Sachse High School Friday.

With their twelfth consecutive victory, the team advanced to the 5A Division II Region 2 final against fifteenth-ranked Lovejoy (32-13, 10-4 District 9-5A) at Rock Hill High School Monday at 6:30 p.m.

“We focused on stopping [Poteet] early, trying to make them nervous, and playing with confidence,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “Staying competitive and excited about the game was a huge factor for us, and we’ll need to do all of that again in the next round against a very dangerous team.”

Senior, outside hitter and Eckerd College commit Jaiden Harris, believes that the Leopards are the most challenging team the Redhawks have faced so far in the playoffs, despite a 2-0 win against them earlier in the season.

“Everybody on our team is motivating each other, playing for each other,” Harris said. “We had an advantage on defense against Poteet for most of the match, but we’re going to have to practice and scout Lovejoy really well, particularly at setter and opposite hitter, to be prepared because we’re more evenly matched.”
