After a first-place finish in the NISD Tournament, volleyball is set for another busy weekend, playing Panther Creek at The Nest on Friday and Lovejoy and Wakeland on Saturday at Lovejoy.
“I hope that we play really competitively,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “We’ve played Lovejoy and Wakeland before, and we definitely have areas of improvement for both of those games. So I’m hoping we compete a little better.”
Having already lost to Wakeland this season, and getting knocked out of the playoffs last year by them, the Redhawks and the Wolverines have a history. But the past does not give senior Kate Ashmore any fear.
“I’m really excited to play a super competitive team and find ways to score,” Ashmore said. “I think our biggest strength against them is being super disciplined in defense. They’re a very good team, but I think we are super capable of beating them.”
Dobbins believes the key to beating Wakeland will be the girls’ confidence.
“I think for them, it’s just believing in themselves and being really confident,” She said. “We are a really great group. They just need to believe that before they step on the court.”
Win or lose this weekend, sophomore Maddie Lagrone is excited about the bonding experience.
“ I think it’s fun that we get to play on Friday and twice on Saturday and get to team bond over the weekend,” Lagrone said. “I hope that we just grow as a team and learn a lot while having fun and winning.”
