In their second game of the District 6-5A season, the Redhawk football team takes on Greenville at 7 p..m. Thursday at Toyota Stadium.
“Fixing the mistakes from last week will go a long way towards letting us be successful,” head coach Matt Swinnea said. “I thought we had a couple of good days of practice, and you know I look forward to seeing the guys execute on Thursday.”
Both teams will be heading into the game 0-1, but many students and athletes predict the Redhawks as the winner.
“A lot of that goes back to them playing Greenville over the years and at the subvarsity and freshman levels,” Swinnea said. “We have been competitive or beaten them, so I think there is that comfort level, right there, and you know just in terms of number of kids playing and things like that are similar.”
Sitting on a 12-game losing streak, players such as junior Trevor Deforest are a bit anxious about Thursday’s game.
“To be honest, I am a little nervous for the game because I feel like this game is very winnable,” Deforest said. “I think we could win this week because after last week, and even last season, the whole team is very eager to put everything on the line against Greenville and get that W.”
