Wingspan’s Featured Athlete for 9/28 is tennis player, junior Krish Pokle.

Wingspan: When and why did you start playing tennis?

Pokle: “I started playing tennis as early as third or fourth grade and got interested mostly from watching and playing with my brother.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about tennis?

Pokle: “My favorite part of tennis is definitely practice. For me it’s the perfect balance of being competitive with the ability to still have fun playing with friends.”

Wingspan: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Pokle: “If we are talking about a professional interest, I look up to Federer the most. His calm demeanor while still performing at the highest level really captivates me.”

Wingspan: How have you been preparing/practicing tennis?

Pokle: “In the summer I used to practice regularly with a group of people, but now I just practice during school and sometimes with my friends.”

Wingspan: What is your goal for this season?

Pokle:  “My goal for tennis this season was definitely to make the playoffs, and we achieved that, so I believe it was a pretty successful season.”

Wingspan: How has tennis impacted your life?

Pokle: “Tennis impacted my life in many ways. It allowed me to make many friends I cherish today and got me through days I wasn’t feeling my best.”

Wingspan: What has been your greatest challenge playing tennis?

Pokle: “My greatest challenge in tennis has been playing players who are perceived as above my skill level. Since I’m line one, it’s difficult to win every match, so I’m trying my best to help the team.”

Wingspan: What are you excited about for this season?

Pokle: “Building off my last response, I’m most excited for the players I get to play during season. Usually, I wouldn’t get the opportunity to play such people, but during school I can have fun competing against skilled players.”
